As part of a larger Highway 1 South safety improvement project, KCRH was asked by the City of Half Moon Bay to develop a landmark entry monument and adjacent median landscaping for the intersection of South Main Street and Highway 1 in order to provide visitors and residents with an attractive, welcoming gateway to the southern limits of the downtown area. Our efforts resulted in two crescent-shaped monument signs, each approximately nine feet tall by fifty feet wide, with undulating bands of textured, colored concrete in different shades meant to evoke the bluff faces along the beach. Each wall is illuminated in the evening hours by a customizable array of LED fixtures, designed by us; from a distance the walls give the appearance of the setting sun.
